- "We need to show the world the spirit of Chi-Ha-Tan!"
- ―Tamaki Tamada
Tamaki Tamada (玉田 環, Tamada Tamaki) is one of the supporting characters in Girls und Panzer der Film and Girls und Panzer das Finale.
Profile[]
Tamaki is one of the Chi-Ha-Tan Academy students seen in the movie. She's the commander of a Type 97 Chi-Ha Shinhoto. She is also possibly the Vice Commander of the Sensha-do Team as a whole, together with Shizuko Hosomi.
Appearance[]
Tamaki is an average-sized girl with long black hair that is tied in a french braid by a little white bow, a pair of reddish-brown eyes with thick eyebrows and she seems to have a significantly paler complexion compared to that of her teammates.
She is usually seen wearing the Chi-Ha-Tan Senshado uniform and skirt. She also wears a samurai's kimono when practicing swordsmanship and meditation.
Personality[]
The most easily noticeable traits of Tamaki's personality are her impulsiveness and her tendency to lose her temper, combined with her stubbornness, especially when Chi-Ha-Tan's traditional values are questioned. In particular, she is strongly averse to the very idea of retreating, even when tactically advisable. However, she also possesses an enthusiastic and kind side.
Tamaki getting mad at Haru Fukuda for questioning the principles of the charge.
Despite a tendency to initiate charges at every opportunity, she is actually fairly competent at commanding her tank, surviving the ambush from All-Stars University and knocking out at least one Pershing tank.
Tends to be a strong conservative and traditionalist, believing in upholding Chi-Ha-Tan's ancient values and traditions, no matter how absurd they are in the modern day, or generally impractical. Tamada outright flipped out at Fukuda when she questioned the idea of charging at the enemy, fully believing that Fukuda was looking down on the traditions of Chi-Ha-Tan. However, she was placated by Kinuyo Nishi's willingness to listen to Fukuda's plan.
She seems to have a tendency to take the lead, regardless of what her commander says: when she tells everyone to charge, they do it, and even Nishi won't be able to stop them, causing them to become easy target to enemy fire.
Etymology[]
- The name Tamaki means "ring, link" (環).
- Tamaki's surname Tamada means "ball, sphere, bullet, lens, jade, bulb, bead, gem, shot, jewel, shell, coin, bowl, pretty girl" (玉) (tama) and "field, rice paddy" (ta/da).
- Tamada may based on Japanese Tank Commander Yoshio Tamada, who notably fought the Red Army at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 (a battle the Japanese lost mainly due to possessing smaller numbers and inferior tanks).
Trivia[]
- Tamaki seems to be pretty good friends with Kinuyo Nishi and she appears to be Haru Fukuda's mentor.
- Tamaki seems to be able to sleep anywhere:
- In an official art piece, she falls asleep with her feet in the bath water.
- In the credits in Der Film, she even sleeps lying down in the Chihatan train's floor, regardless of if she could be stepped on or not.
- Her motto is "I won't stare, I'll fight."
- Tamaki's birthday is on January 27th, the same day Japanese submarine I-73 was sunk in 1944 and the Siege of Leningrad ended in 1944.
- Coincidentally, Tamaki's birthday is also on the same day when the Red Army reached the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945.
