Oryou (おりょう, Oryō), real name Takeko Nogami (野上 武子, Nogami Takeko), is one of the supporting protagonists of Girls und Panzer and is the driver of the Hippo Team.
Profile[]
Oryou is a second-year student from Ooarai Girls Academy, and the driver of the StuG III, operated by the Hippo Team. She's a member of the History Buffs Club, or reki-jo, specializing in the Bakumatsu period of Japanese history.
Appearance[]
Oryou is a short but well-endowed girl with mid-length, unruly Black hair with blue contrast, tied by White Ford into a short ponytail. She has midnight blue eyes, with red half-rimmed eyeglasses. She is regularly seen wearing a dark brown haori with the mon of the Sakamoto clan, and sporting black boots, in reference to historical figure of Sakamoto Ryōma.
Personality[]
Oryou is well known for her expertise on the history of the Bakumatsu period. She's also fairly calm and, although having a somewhat boyish and messy hairdo, she is still the most feminine of the Hippo Team (she is also the only member of the team whose nickname came from a woman). In terms of historical knowledge, she is often depicted to go into extreme detail when asked even the simplest of questions. This is seen through her appearances in Motto Motto Love Sakusen Desu! in which she provides a comprehensive overview of the entire Bakumatsu to Early Meiji periods when speaking to a teacher, who then brushes her off by refusing to ask further questions. She loves her idol fervently and tends to get upset when someone tries to poke fun or mock him, with the case of Erwin in another 4koma. Her infatuation can go so far as to collapsing unto the ground in shock and awe at the sight of Sakamoto.
Background[]
(SOON)
Etymology[]
- The name Takeko means "military, martial" (武) (take) and "child" (子) (ko).
- Takeko's surname Nogami means "field, wilderness" (野) (no) and "above, top, upper" (上) (kami/gami).
Trivia[]
- Takeko's favorite flower is the myrtle, and her favorite tank is the Japanese Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank.
- Takeko's birthday, November 15th, references the birth and death dates of Ryoma Sakamoto, a samurai and influential figure of the Bakumatsu (the historical era which she is passionate about and has the most expertise in).
- According to the lunar calendar, Ryoma Sakamoto was born on the 15th day of the 11th month (January 3rd, 1836, Tenpō 6). He was assassinated on the same day in the lunar calendar, 31 years later (December 10th, 1867, Keiō 3).
- Ryoma Sakamoto is remembered as an active opponent of the Tokugawa shogunate, and advocated for democracy and the abolition of feudalism in Japan.
- Takeko's soul name, Oryou, is inspired by Ryo Narasaki, the wife of Ryoma Sakamoto.
- Ryo Narasaki is best remembered for the Teradaya Incident, in which she saved the life of her future husband from an assassination attempt. While taking a bath at the inn where she worked, she detected an assassin outside the bathroom window. She ran through the inn to warn Ryoma Sakamoto and his bodyguard of the assassins' arrival.
- Takeko's haori has the Sakamoto clan crest on the lapels. She also wears boots, a reference to how Ryoma Sakamoto would often wear Western instead of traditional Japanese footwear.
- Takeko also ends her sentences with the suffix "ze-yo", which is particular to the Tosa dialect of Japanese that Ryoma Sakamoto was purported to have spoken.
- Takeko's seiyuu, Ayuru Ohashi, also voices the following characters:
- Maiko, commanding officer of Bonple High School.
