- "Ye ain't the usual folk..."
- ―Ogin to Anglerfish Team after being defeated
"Tornado" Ogin (お銀, Ogin) is supporting character in Girls und Panzer.
Profile[]
Deep in the underbelly of Ooarai's school carrier lies "Johannesburg" - a lawless zone, clad in darkness and guarded by barbed wire. It is here that wayward students from Ooarai's Naval Studies Department gather, with a shared disdain for any form of authority that would dare to rein them in. Buried within that realm is "Donzoko", a bar frequented by some of the toughest students to set sail. And that bar's toughest customer is Ogin the Tornado, captain of those who call "Donzoko" home.
Laidback, adventurous, and not afraid to exercise authority, Ogin is the stereotypical gang leader one can't help but look up to. In fact, Ogin looks up only to one person - the senior and student council PR manager who saved them from expulsion, Momo Kawashima.
Now, with Momo's university education on the line, Ogin has a chance to repay her senior for her help in their time of need. And with the Winter Track Continuous Cup looming, what better way to do so - than to command a "landship" in battle under Momo's leadership? Only time will tell if Ogin and the newly formed "Shark Team" will blow the competition out of the water - or sleep with the fishes.
Appearances[]
Ogin is tall, and has an above-average figure. She has long dark hair, which she ties in a low ponytail with a red bow. Part of her fringe covers her right eye, similar to a pirate's eye patch. Ogin also has a notably darker complexion compared to the rest of her teammates.
Her usual attire consists of the Ooarai Girls' Academy naval uniform - a white long-sleeved sailor's blouse and a short white skirt. Ogin's blouse is shorter than normal, exposing her midriff. Ogin also wears the Ooarai naval cap with a red feather as an accessory. She completes her look with boots, a fake pipe, and a long frock coat.
In sensha-do, Ogin wears the usual blue Ooarai tank jacket, with her frock coat over it.
In animation[]
Earning Sodoko's freedom[]
Ogin first appears in Girls und Panzer: Das Finale Part 1, as the leader of the students of "Donzoko Bar". After Sodoko is captured and imprisoned in the bar, Ogin's subordinates challenge Anglerfish Team to a series of challenges - which they complete with ease. Before the other Donzoko Bar students can attack Anglerfish and Sodoko, Ogin stops them, and issues their final challenge - a non-alcoholic spiced rum drinking contest.
Anglerfish gunner and student council president Hana Isuzu steps up to receive the challenge - and beats Ogin ten shots to nine. As Ogin recovers from the aftermath of drinking too much spiced rum, Anglerfish Team mentions Momo having trouble being accepted into university. Ogin is reminded of how Momo covered for them and prevented their expulsion, and agrees to help them with the other students of Donzoko Bar.
Recruiting Shark Team[]
After Yukari mentions they are searching for a tank, the girls of Donzoko reveal that they have been using it for smoking meats for their bar food. Yukari inspects the vehicle, and declares it will need a crew of five. Ogin then volunteers to captain the crew of the new tank, likening it to steering a ship on land. She and the other girls from Donzoko will go on to form Ooarai's "Shark Team".

Trivia[]
- Ogin (お銀) means "silver" in Japanese, and her name is likely inspired by the following:
- the precious metal, often thought to be coveted by pirates as part of their plunder.
- Long John Silver, the main antagonist from Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island (1883).
- Ogin often compares herself to William Kidd, a Scottish privateer and pirate who was active during the Golden Age of Piracy who was believed to have left buried treasure.
