The ninth OVA episode "Taiyaki War!" "Taiyaki Wō!" (ガールズ&パンツァー タイヤキ・ウォー!) is a special episode released on February 27th, 2020. The episode presents the events prior to BC Freedom High School's battle against Ooarai Girls Academy in the first round of Winter Continuous Track Cup, as background information leading up to the events of Part 1.
Plot[]
The Drawing[]
The series opened by event from Part 1 in which Rena Andou angered over Ruka Oshida, blaming her that they have to face heavy opponent, summer tournament champion, Ooarai Girls Academy, in their very first match of Winter Continuous Track; despite the fact that it was Andou who took the draw, meaning that Oshida had nothing to be blamed for. Disregarding the situation, they both quarreled, as culmination of thick animosity between Examination and Escalator faction of BC Freedom.
Seemingly undisturbed by the quarrel, much to a small distaste, BC Freedom's overall commander, Marie, keeps eating her cake. While apparently ignorant on the overall situation, Marie acknowledged to herself that this situation cannot be continued any further, under the pretext she won't be able to eat cake anymore due to the quarrel spoiled the taste.
Cassus Belli[]
The scene then moved to BC Freedom's school carrier, the Bearn, in Examination's side, which is far poorer, dirtier, and overall uglier compared to Escalator's side of the ship. In one of the alley, students bustling on street full of street food vendors and stalls, mostly serving traditional Japanese street food. Rena Andou was one of the vendors there, selling taiyaki, which is famous among students, especially the kouhais.
Despite the deteriorated condition, life is good, until Ruka Oshida came with some Escalator students, demanding the vendors to be closed down immediately. Andou resisted by reasoning that Examination students won't have any place to eat should all the stores close. That was due to Escalator's cafeterias being expensive and only serving gourmet stuff like escargots, foie grases, caviar, and terrines. She then demands that if Escalators wish to closed their stores, at least they must serve foods that can be eaten by chopsticks and udons, which is laughed at by Escalators students as disgraceful, and challenged them to learn how to use spoons and forks instead. Oshida then put ultimatum that all the stores has to be cleared by today, otherwise, they would clear them themselves by force.
Angered by the demand of Escalators, and moved by saddened store owners which don't know what to do if their stores closed, Andou decided that she will fight for their rights and freedom of choice. She then declared that their revolution shall be named, "Taiyaki Revolution", representing all the street foods that refused to be banished.
The Revolt[]
All Examination students then gathered up in front of the Bastille, to resist Escalators' attempt to shut their stores. They also demanded that all the expensive foods be banned and only foods like taiyaki and soy sauce should be served in the cafeteria. Geared up to the full riot-gear, Oshida and the Escalators' forces denied Examinations' demand, saying that "any food taken by hand is not worthy to be in school". Angered, Andou and Examination students then charged on Escalators' position. However, before both factions collided on each other, Marie dangerously drove her horse cart in between the two, separating them.
Upset, Marie reminds everyone that while there's the Winter Continuous Track match ahead of them, all the girls seem to be fighting over feeble things. Both Andou and Oshida, however refused to listen and keep trash-talking on each other. Marie then plead them to stop, and to the surprise of both sides, set full-table there to eat her dessert. Both sides were then startled, as when Marie's aides open the cloches, it turns out that there's taiyaki inside, with chocolate filling.
The Reconciliation[]
While both sides still confused on the things demonstrated by their leader, Marie quickly hand over choco-taiyakis for everyone there to try. To their surprise, the taste are very delicious. Even Andou remarked that choco-cream and taiyaki crust are a magical match made-in-heaven. While admiring the food as wonderful combination, Oshida seems curious why Marie had the idea to put chocolate inside taiyaki.
Andou then contemplated that perhaps Marie wanted to show them all that they must recognize their good sides, instead of widening the rift on each other, just like those choco-taiyaki. This struck Oshida with the realization that even though two things are different, combining them could uncover an unexpected delicacy. This epiphany made them think beyond the box and find that their foods can be combined into new delicious tastes, like foie gras taiyaki or escargot udon. And likewise, Escalators and Examinations are better off to be united rather than fighting on each other.
To Marie's delight, Oshida and Andou then make amends and have peace, forming "Choco-Taiyaki" alliance to achieve victory over Ooarai. While everyone cheering on their new friendship, Marie's aide whispered to her some very important news.
To Fool The Spy[]
It turns out, Yukari Akiyama has been spotted trying to infiltrate BC Freedom's school-carrier in an attempt to spy on their sensha-dō team. Instead of catching her in the act, Marie decided to use the obliviousness of their newly-found reconciliation to fool Yukari that BC Freedom is still divided. She then ordered the students to fake the previous dissident, to convince Yukari about BC Freedom's disunity, while pretending not noticing that Yukari is there, openly recorded everything.
Scene then moving on the tank garage, where Yukari recorded a fierce quarrel between Escalator and Examination students, which later turns into a heavy brawl, while Marie just eat her cake on top of her FT-17, pretending oblivious of the ensuing situation. Caught in heavy brawl, Yukari then conclude her spying, falsely believed that BC girls are more busy on fighting each other rather than focusing on the upcoming match. After she left the scene, the fight stops and both Oshida and Andou apologize on each other and compliment on how well they acted on fooling Ooarai's spy. Confidently, Marie believe that now they will have a greater chance in achieving victory over their more powerful opponent. As all BC Freedom's students sung "Le Chant de l'Oignon", Yukari can be seen flown away from the Bearn with false intelligence, that will prove very fatal for Ooarai on their first match.

Main Events[]
- Oshida and Andou fighting on each other in drawing for Winter Continuous Track Cup Drawing.
- Clash between Examination and Escalator faction due to Escalator's attempt on shutting down Examination's street food vendors by force.
- Marie defused the animosity between two factions by making choco-taiyaki.
- Marie fooled Yukari Akiyama's spying attempts with false disinformation to lower Ooarai's guard on the upcoming match.
Trivia[]
- When a kouhai bought Andou's taiyaki, she mentioned that her taiyaki has it's red-bean filling all the way to the tail, a fact that's very sought-after, but rarely found in real-world taiyaki.
- Unlike other schools, for instance, Anzio,(which sells Italian street food.) BC Freedom was shown selling Japanese food, instead of French food, on their Examination's street-food stall. This because French cuisine technically doesn't have street food culture. According to some culinary expert, bistro is the closest French cuisine gets on the "street food" definition.
- Instead of using batons, Oshida with the Escalator's riot-unit used baguettes for their blunt weapons.
- It is said that a baguette can be hard enough to hurt someone when you hit them with one.
- Andou made taiyaki with grumpy expressions, while Marie made her choco-taiyaki with cute expressions. This suggest that more than likely Marie has her own taiyaki mold.
- An instrumental piano arragement of piece of youth is featured when Marie reveals the "choco-taiyaki". This track was not included in the das Finale Episode 1 - Episode 3 soundtrack album.
- Some of fusion-food suggested by BC Freedom's students are: foie gras taiyaki, escargot udon, caviar don, and takoyaki terrine. Interestingly, some girls mentioned "yakisoba" without accompanied by French ingredients.
- Despite Marie ordered BC Freedom's students to pretend not noticing Yukari Akiyama, it's clear that Yukari herself doesn't make any attempt on hiding her presence, or that she's currently spying.
- This also the first time Yukari Akiyama's spying attempt be countered with disinformation to bring false intelligence to Ooarai.
