- ―Karina Sakaguchi
Karina Sakaguchi (阪口 佳利奈, Sakaguchi Karina) is the driver of the Rabbit Team and one of the supporting protagonists of Girls und Panzer.
Profile[]
Karina is a first year student from Ooarai Girls High School. She's the driver of Rabbit Team's M3 Lee. Karina comes from Hitachinaka, Ibaraki.
Appearance[]
Karina is a girl with a short light brown hair and a pair of dark blue eyes.
Personality[]
Karina is well known for her impulsive personality. Not much of her has been seen outside of battle, however, which may explain her seemingly rash nature. During battle, she is not particularly calm or composed, and during Ooarai's exhibition match against St Gloriana's high school, she fled with the rest of the crew of Rabbit, abandoning their panzer in the middle of the match. In later episodes, however, both she and the rest of her teammates became much more mature and professional in their panzer.
Background[]
Being the driver of the Rabbit Team, Karina was the direct handler of both the plans to defeat the Elefant and the Jagdtiger in the match against Kuromorimine. These plans were:
- In the fight against the Elefant, Azusa orchestrated "Operation Kelly Heroes", which involved driving the M3 Lee around in the short alleyways to get behind the Elefant when it was unable to rotate in such narrow roads.
- In the fight against the Jagdtiger, Yuuki instructed Karina to turn left violently right before the Jagdtiger successfully pushes the M3 Lee down an empty canal, leading to the Jagdtiger falling to its doom because of momentum instead.
- Moreover, she also kept the M3 Lee alive in their fight against the Jagdtiger so Yuuki's plan could work (or rather, so it could be proposed at all). Most notably, she came up with the idea to ram the Jagdtiger head-on while moving so it couldn't target the M3 Lee.
Etymology[]
- The name Karina means "Japanese Judas-tree" (桂) (ka), "benefit, advantage" (利) (ri) and "Nara, what" (奈) (na).
- Karina's surname Sakaguchi means "heights, slope" (阪) (saka) and "mouth, entrance" (口) (kuchi/guchi).
Trivia[]
- In the spin-off manga Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu! it is shown that Karina is an otaku, and her mood is heavily dependent on anime she has recently watched.
- Karina has two older brothers.
- In the Drama CD: "Everyone! What Are You Choosing?", Karina is the only one that has initially chosen Senshado among her members of the Rabbit Team.
- Karina's English voice artist Monica Rial younger sister Natalie voices fellow Ooarai Girls Academy classmate Nekota.
