Darjeeling (ダージリン, Dājirin) is a supporting character in the Girls und Panzer series.
Profile[]
Prim. Poised. Perfectly calm under fire. Such are words used to describe Darjeeling, and yet they only scrape the surface of one of the most skilled commanding officers in the high school division. The current head of St. Gloriana's Tea Garden, Darjeeling embodies the ideal that all St. Gloriana students strive to attain. Teacup in hand, Churchill at the ready, she's the reason why St. Gloriana is a well-respected and esteemed institution in the world of sensha-do.
Beneath the surface, however - lies a battle-hardened, wily combat leader. Forged through tough training by her predecessor, Darjeeling brings great wisdom to any battle. Well-read and intelligent, her vast knowledge allows her to devise plans and overcome any who might stand in her way.
If there's one thing in which Darjeeling falters in - it's curbing her enthusiasm. That facade, known for rarely ever breaking even under armor-piercing fire, caves when it comes to all things British, or the latest pop culture. I once had the fortune to be invited to one of her afternoon teas - and everything she served started with the letter 'S'. Scones, salmon finger sandwiches, strawberry Victoria sponge. It wasn't until much later that I found out from her trusted lieutenant, that she had just discovered the meme known as 'Cool S'. Hence, the 'S'-themed tea. I was wondering where she had gotten the idea of pairing all those things with sencha. And why she was so obsessed with talking about the latest Super Mario movie.
If you meet her, tarry a while, for she makes for some great conversation. Don't stay too long, though. You might find yourself succumbing to her charms before you know it.
Appearance[]
Darjeeling is an attractive girl of average height and build, with long flaxen blonde hair and light blue eyes. She braids her hair and ties them into double low buns.
Darjeeling is usually seen wearing the St. Gloriana uniform. While practicing sensha-do, Darjeeling dons the school's red uniform.
Combat Style[]
Darjeeling's style of combat is based on the "Hammer and Anvil" doctrine, which relies on battlefield awareness and splitting forces to defeat enemies through attrition. Her preferred tactic is to use one force to draw fire from her adversaries, relying on heavy armor and strategic defensive positioning to endure or block enemy fire, while using her faster tanks to encircle or flank the enemy and deliver a decisive blow. Darjeeling also favors 'marching fire', a tactic used to suppress enemies by firing while advancing on their position, pinning down enemies and forcing them to either make a last stand, or breakout and risk exposure.
As a British school, Darjeeling's arsenal consists mostly of infantry support tanks such as the Churchill and Matilda II, and cruiser tanks such as the Crusader Mk III. This allows her to split her forces into two dedicated platoons - with her Churchill and Matilda II serving as slow, but durable tanks which can draw fire, and her Crusaders being able to outmaneuver enemies with their superior speed.
Background[]
Darjeeling accepted the invitation of Ooarai Girls Academy to have an exhibition match by annihilation rules. During the match, she manage to defeat Ooarai but suffered heavy losses (only her Churchill survived). After the match, she complimented Ooarai's overall commander Miho Nishizumi as a worthy opponent by giving them some tea as a gift and told her that she was very different from her sister Maho. She said it was more fun competing with Miho than with her sister. Near the beginning of the match, she proudly said her motto "No matter how fast we go, or no matter how many hits we take, I will never spill my tea" to Miho, but during the match she dropped and broke her tea cup due to shock after hearing news that one of her tanks was defeated and another one suffered damage. This further signifies her shock and her respect for Ooarai's potential. Afterwards, she can clearly be seen watching and commenting on the tournament matches while sitting and drinking tea, along with her best friend Orange Pekoe. She always supports the Ooarai team, and also cheered for Ooarai before their final match with Kuromorimine, along with Kay, Alisa, Katyusha, and Nonna.
Quotes[]
